I have three college degrees and 42 years as a complex litigation paralegal. I still got tongue-lashed in federal court for one class-action caption I copied from a lawyer’s template. Haines v. Kerner, 404 U.S. 519 (1972), says a pro se complaint gets liberal construction. After that hearing I stopped putting class language in my own filings, and I keep my individual No-Call cases in local court.

An Arizona company texted a Missouri number on the No-Call List, then sent a non-lawyer into Jefferson County to play attorney. The court struck the filings, sanctioned the LLC and Juan Jose Lopez $35,000 for unauthorized practice of law, and I dismissed the underlying case on purpose. The texts were the opening. The sanctions file is the payday.

I did not hire a lawyer. I filed it myself, served it myself, and walked into a Jefferson County courtroom with a stack of papers and a product that was supposed to cut my power bill. There were no cameras. The company never showed up. The judge entered judgment for $62,333.10. That is the part of consumer justice nobody films — and the part that actually works.

A complaint is not a collection. A screenshot is not a check. This is the Playbook sequence: build the file, name the defendant, stack the statutes, send the demand, settle on paper, or file and collect. Then get your state Playbook.

Wyoming filed 3,683 Do Not Call complaints in 2025 — 635 per 100,000, ahead of New York on a per-capita basis. Federal TCPA damages of $500–$1,500 apply to every illegal call into 307. That closes the 50-state quarterly set.
